Entrevista a Robby Rigsbee "Zach Williams & The Reformation"

Tras dejar pasar algún tiempo, hemos podido hablar tranquilamente con Robby Rigsbeen  (en nuestro kutre-ingles),  de lo vivido en la que puede ser la última gira con "Zach Williams & The Reformation". 

Es de todos conocidos el comunicado que la banda dio nada mas pisar suelo americano. En el cual confirmaban un parón por tiempo indeterminado de la banda. Me costó mucho hablarle sobre la posible separación del grupo, pero me veía en la obligación de preguntárselo, para de este modo tener la versión directa de uno de los protagonistas, y sí ,  Robby la contestó sin tapujos.

Bueno sin mas rodeos os dejo la entrevista a Robby Rigsbeen guitarrista de "Zach Williams And The Reformation". Eso si, antes pediros disculpas anticipadas por mis posibles erratas.... 

1. Algunos días después de aterrizar en vuestra tierra disteis un comunicado en la web, donde se da entender que dejáis  la banda por tiempo indefinido, supongo que una gira tan larga termina con las energías de toda una banda de rock, pero la gente de esta parte del charco está preocupada.

Robby, ¿Es esto una separación definitiva?¿Podremos veros el próximo año en un nuevo tour español?

Robby Rigsbee: Primero lo primero! Quiero dar las gracias a todos por el apoyo y el amor, Cangas es  un gran recuerdo para todos nosotros!!

Bueno ..... yo no quiero decir que esta terminado para siempre, porque no queremos  parecernos  a una de esas bandas que se rompen para luego volver a reunirse una y otra vez.

Por triste que sea, no veo un futuro para la banda ... A menos que hubiera una manera de mantener a nuestra familia está en hacerlo.

Para que conste: No sabíamos que íbamos a romper antes de la gira ..... Todos estábamos de buen humor y nos lo pasamos de maravilla en la gira. No hubo disputas o peleas, la banda nos llevamos muy bien.

Cuando nos bajamos de la gira, nos dimos cuenta de que se rompió .. .

La verdad del asunto es que, éramos una banda independiente que no tenía ninguna fuente de financiación. No teníamos una sociedad de gestión o alguien que nos empujan en la dirección correcta. Siempre tenía que tener un trabajo para mantenernos a nosotros mismos y nuestra propia familia.

Cuando nos decidimos a ir de gira tienes que  compaginarlo con nuestros horarios de trabajo, y para algunos chicos en el grupo, el salario (del tour) tiene que coincidir con sus salarios semanales de trabajo .... Por lo tanto, si tu no ganas dinero en la carretera, entonces tu estás quitando dinero de tu familia.

No estoy diciendo que no hicimos dinero, porque lo hicimos, pero cuando se hace el gasto  para viajar (billete de avión, el equipaje, comida, hotel, gas, etc), tu estás haciendo muchos malabares.

Así que en realidad se estaba haciendo muy difícil para algunos de nosotros poder mantener la vida familiar y la vida de estrella de rock ....

2. Preguntar por un disco nuevo puede que sea ridículo, pero tengo que hacerte la pregunta la  de si está en vuestros  planes volver al estudio para grabar un nuevo trabajo. Todos deseamos que algún día llegue el hijo de "TO Southern Offering", aunque sabemos de la dificultad que supone la creación de grandes éxitos como "Mason Jar".

Robby Rigsbee: Ahora,  podría sin duda ser una posibilidad ... Pero yo no contaría con eso ... Sin embargo, sé que cada uno tiene diferentes proyectos:

Zach ha estado escribiendo  canciones de Gospel cristiano, y estoy planeando colaborar con él en eso.

Red, Josh y yo tenemos pensado reunirnos  con nuestra vieja banda (Further Down) ,que será muy divertido.

Además, Red y el Creed están tocando con otro par de personas alrededor de nuestra área, y Josh está trabajando en formar una nueva banda.

Así que todo el mundo ha estado muy ocupado y no os sorprenderá en verlos en el futuro.

3. Después de su gira española ¿Qué te ha parecido esta parte del mundo? ¿Qué diferencias notas entre los conciertos de aquí y la de los EE.UU.?

Robby Rigsbee: Ha, eso es una pregunta fácil ... Donde quiera que vayas en  Europa, pero especialmente en España, la gente  apoya y disfruta de la música en directo y son tan sinceros acerca de sus bandas. Además, los bares, clubes tratan las bandas con gran respeto, que no es el caso en los EE.UU..

En los EE.UU. Creo que la gente toma la música en directo por sentado y no les da tanta importancia, pero puede ser debido a que el mercado está inundado por las bandas de aquí.... ya que donde quiera que vaya hay música en vivo.

4. Me gustaría mucho a saber cómo es la vida en una ciudad de Arkansas como es Jonesboro , ¿Qué hace la gente para entretenerse?

Robby Rigsbee: Jonesboro es una gran ciudad ... Tiene sus altibajos.

Vivimos en un “Dry County” (condado donde perdura la ley seca), lo que significa que no puede comprar alcohol aquí a menos que sea en un restaurante ... Si quieres alcohol tienes que ir 30 minutos por la carretera a la ciudad más próxima.

Jonesboro tiene una población de unas 70.000 habitantes y aquí todo el mundo le encantan los deportes. Por lo que un montón de gente de aquí va a la escuela secundaria, al fútbol americano universitario y partidos de baloncesto.

Hay alrededor de 3 bares  aquí donde se puede ver bandas en directo, sin embargo, vivimos alrededor de 1 hora de Memphis, TN. Por lo tanto, suelen ir allí para ver a todas las grandes bandas!

5. Durante vuestro concierto  hemos disfrutado, sobre todo, de la pureza del sonido, la profesionalidad  que uno tarda años en conseguir... ¿cuánto tiempo lleváis juntos como banda? ¿De donde surge el nombre de Zach WilliamsThe Reformation?

Robby Rigsbee: The Reformation  llevábamos juntos 5 años (como Further Down) antes de que Zach entrara en escena. Todos hemos aprendido mucho y han estado tocando juntos durante mucho, mucho tiempo. Con Zach estuvimos juntos durante 3 años, por lo que hemos cubierto mucho terreno ...

6. Al ver los cajones de vuestros  instrumentos nos llamó  la atención las pegatinas que tenían: Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band ... Estos grupos significan mucho para mucha gente ¿con qué otros grupos te sientes identificado?

Robby Rigsbee: Adoro las bandas clásicas como los Allman Brothers, The Dead, Zeppellin, CCR, Tom Petty, y Gram Parsons.

Mi colección de discos es enorme me encanta todo.

He estado escuchando un montón de bandas nuevas y modernas del momento, tales como: Rival Sons, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Big Wreck, The Alabama Shakes, J Roddy Walston and The Business, Michael Kiwanuka, Butch Walker and Portugal.The Man.

Mientras estaba en España he escuchado lo nuevo de  Chris Robinson Hood y el nuevo álbum de John Mayer (que es increíble), por lo que esos discos se hacen siempre me hace pensar en esa gira!!

7. He tenido la oportunidad de ver poco después de disfrutar de vuestro concierto, a Tom Petty en Alemania (hacía 20 años que no venía a Europa) ... Todavía estoy alucinado con su concierto y, sobre todo con el poder de Mike Campbell sobre el escenario ¿ Que grandes  bandas has sido capaz de ver en directo, donde, y que te han sorprendido de ellos?

Robby Rigsbee: Te entiendo ... he sido capaz de verlo 3 veces y me entusiasman  cada vez... increíble, increíble banda!. Y  Mike Campbell es uno de mis top 5 guitarristas favoritos ...

My Morning Jacket ------ es una banda increíble .... yo los vi en San Luis y en Nueva York en el Madison Square Garden ..... En directo es una  banda increíble. La primera vez que los vi yo era escéptico, pero me quedé realmente impresionado.

8. En el concierto de Cangas nos volvimos locos realmente con las versiones de la banda, los Allman Brothers y THE BLACK CROWES …¿Con qué versión disfrutas más en un directo? ¿Qué otras bandas soléis   versionear?

Robby Rigsbee: Vosotros estáis locos! Hahah , me gusta mucho todas las versiones. A mí me parece que el tocar versiones de The Black Crowes, siempre es interesante. Simplemente tocamos la que es mas facil de recordar para nosotros... jajaja

9. Recuerdo una conversación que tuvimos en la que me contaste  que decoraras la habitación de tu hijo con los "osos bailarines" de los Grateful Dead ... ¿Sigue igual de esa habitación decorada? ¿Qué música le pones a tu pequeño y cual le gusta más?

Robby Rigsbee: Ahh sí recuerdo esa conversación. Si su habitación sigue con los Dancing Bear, le encantan los colores y los osos. (Véase la foto adjunta) ... Le gusta mucho bailar a los Grateful Dead!

Él sabe todas las letras del nuevo álbum de My Morning Jacket. Su canción favorita es “Wonderfull”  de ese álbum. También le encanta el nuevo álbum Grace Potter.

10. Para ir terminando, yo a cada banda que puedo entrevistar les pregunto sobre  esas otras bandas con las que compartieron escenario ... ¿Cuál ha sido tu mayor experiencia hasta ahora?.

Robby Rigsbee: Para mí, yo diría que probablemente que el concierto que hicimos junto a Steepwater Band en París, en la última noche de nuestra primera gira ….

Me encanta el estilo de Jeff y me hizo tocar  un par de temas durante su set…. Un gran momento, gran momento ….. Nos quedamos despiertos toda la noche de fiesta en espera de nuestro vuelo a casa! hahaha

11. Hemos podido disfrutar en nuestras tierras de conciertos de otras bandas: Stacie Collins, Dirty York (Australia), The Vegabonds, Delta Saints, American Aquarium, The Muggs, Willie Nile, ... Dentro de poco vendrán: Outside The Box, US Rails, Rory Kelly, The Jayhawks .... ¿Conoces alguna de estas bandas? ¿Qué bandas  nos recomendarías para llevar de gira?

También nuestros amigos Starroy van a venir en diciembre. Asegúrate de verlos  si tocan en Cangas. Berry su guitarrista tocó para estar en ZWR, y él es muy bueno!

12. Un momento que nunca olvidaré el concierto de Cangas, fue cuando durante el  concierto terminaste  con una peluca en la cabeza ¿Recuerdas ese momento? ¿Cuál fue tu experiencia loca durante la gira europea? ¿No vale contar cuando levanté sobre mis hombros a Red Dorton jajaja?

Robby Rigsbee: Oh, sí que recuerdo ese momento!! Hahahah pensé que me iba a desmayar, pasé tanto calor con esa cosa…. Me sentí como Craig Ross! el guitarrista de Lenny Kravitz Hahahah.

Cuando pusiste a Red sobre tus   hombro , yo sabía que iba a ser una noche divertida!. Yo estaba pensando que vosotros sabéis cómo divertirse! Hahaha

13. Para ir finalizando, me gustaría saber si algunos de los miembros tiene otra banda o algún proyecto paralelo.

Robby Rigsbee: Zach ha escrito canciones Gospel cristiano, y estoy planeando colaborar con él en eso.

14. ¿Qué piensa usted acerca del "churrasco", "criollos", "El vino Mencía" y "Licor Café" ... jajaja?

Robby Rigsbee: nos encantó el vino y el licor de café, de hecho todos tenemos un montón de vino de contrabando  en casa para nuestras mujeres! Ellas lo disfrutaron mucho! Todavía tengo una botella a la izquierda ... para esa ocasión especial!

15. Por último, quiero que me hables de  "Teenage Head Music", Manny y compañía ...

Robby Rigsbee: Hemos trabajado con Manny y Carmen y disfrutamos mucho trabajando con ellos.... Se cuidó muy bien de nosotros y son buena gente! Yo siempre me mantendré en contacto con ellos.

Tienen una gran cosa, y les deseo lo mejor.

Finalmente darte las gracias por  la noche fantástica que vivimos en Cangas, dale al resto de la banda de todos nosotros y el deseo  de volver a veros el año que viene.... Espero que sigáis  juntos porque en realidad sois una banda fantástica.

ROBBY RIGSBEEN INTERVIEW: "ZACH WILLIMAS & THE REFORMATION"

1. Some days after landing in your land you gave a communiqué in the Web, where give understand that leave the band indefinitely, I suppose that a so long tour europes the energies of all a band of rock, but the people of this part of the puddle is worried. Robby, ¿is this a final separation? We will be able to see you next year on the Spanish settings? 

Robby Rigsbee: First things first! I want to thank you all for the support and love, Cangas is such a great memory for all of us!!!!

Well…..I Don’t want to say its over forever, because I don’t want to look like one of those bands that break up then get back together over and over again.

As sad as it is; I don’t see a future for the band…Unless there was a way to support our family’s in doing so.

For the record: We didn’t know we were going to break up before the tour…..We were all in good spirits and we all had a blast on tour. There were no feuds or fights, the band was getting along great.

When we got off of tour, we realized that we were broke..HAHA.

The truth of the matter is; we were an independent band that had no source of funding. We didn’t have a management company or someone to push us in the right direction. We always had to have a job to support ourselves and our family’s.

When we decide to go on tour it has to work out with our work schedules, and for some guys in the group, the pay (from shows) has to match up with their weekly work wages….So, if you don’t make any money on the road then you’re taking money away from your family.

Im not saying we didn’t make money, because we did, but when you take in the cost for touring (air fare, baggage, food, hotel, gas, etc.) you’re doing good to break even.

So in reality it was getting really hard for some of us to maintain family life and rock star life....

2. Ask you for a new disk that be ridiculous, but there remains the question ¿Is in your plans to return to the study to record a new work? All we desire that some day arrive the son of "TO Southern Offering" although we know about the difficulty that supposes to create large successes as "Mason Jar". 

Robby Rigsbee: Now, that could for sure be a possibility…I wouldn’t count that out… However; I know everyone has got different projects going on.

Zach has been writing Gospel/Christian songs and I plan on collaborating with him on that.

Red, Josh, and Myself have a reunion going on with our old band (Further Down) that will be a lot of fun.

Also; Red and Creed are playing together with a couple other people around our area, and Josh has a new band in the works.

So everyone has been busy and don’t be surprised to see them in the future.

3. After your Spanish tour ¿What has seemed you this part of the world? What differences you note among the concerts from here and the of the US? 

Robby Rigsbee: Ha that’s an easy question… Everywhere you go Europe, especially in Spain; the people support and enjoy live music and they are so sincere about their bands. Also, the bars/clubs treat the bands with great respect, that’s not the case in the USA.

In the USA I think people take live music for granted and they are not as supportive, but that may be because the market is flooded by bands here….everywhere you go there is live music.

4. It desires me a lot to know how is the life in a city of Arkansas as is Jonesboro, ¿What does the people to be entertained? 

Robby Rigsbee: Jonesboro is a great town…It has its ups and downs.  

We live in a Dry County which means you can’t buy alcohol here unless it’s at a restaurant…If you want alcohol you have to go 30 minutes down the road to the next county.

Jonesboro has a population of about 70,000 people and everyone here loves sports. so a lot of folks here go to high school, college football and basketball games.

There is about 3 bars here where you can check out live bands, however we live about 1 hour from Memphis TN. So we usually go there to see all the big bands!

5. During your concert we have enjoyed above all of the purity of your sound, professionalism that delays years in obtaining… ¿how Much time you carry together as band? Of where the name arises Zach Williams and The Reformation? 
Robby Rigsbee: The Reformation was together for 5 years (as Further Down) before Zach came into the picture. We all have learned a lot and have been playing together for a long long time. With Zach we were together for 3 years, so we covered a lot of ground…

6. Seeing in the drawers of your instruments the attention called us the stickers that you had: GRATEFUL DEAD, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND... These groups signify a lot for many people ¿with which other groups you feel identifying? 

Robby Rigsbee: I adore the classic bands such as the Allman Brothers, The Dead, Zeppelin, CCR, Tom Petty, and Gram Parsons.

My record collection is vast I love everything.

Ive been listening to a lot of newer / modern bands at the moment such as: Rival Sons, Tedeschi Trucks band,  Big Wreck, The Alabama Shakes, J Roddy Walston and the Business, Michael Kiwanuka, Butch Walker, and Portugal. The Man.

While I was in Spain I listened to the new Chris Robinson Brother Hood and John Mayer’s newest album (which is amazing), so those albums will forever make me think of that tour!!!!

7. I have had the opportunity to see shortly after enjoying your concert, to Tom Petty in Germany (20 years ago that did not come to Europe)… still I am hallucinated with their action and above all with the power of Mike Campbell on the setting ¿how large bands you have been able to see in direct, where, and that have surprised you of them? 

Robby Rigsbee: I feel ya…I have been able to see him 3 times and he blows me away every single time… Amazing Amazing Band!! Mike Campbell is one of my top 5 favorite guitarist…

My Morning Jacket------ Amazing band….I saw them in St. Louis and in New York at Madison Square Garden….. Straight up an amazing band. The first time I saw them I was skeptical but I was truly blown away.

8. In the concert of cangas you returned us really lunatics with the versions of THE BAND, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS and THE BLACK CROWES ¿with which version enjoy more in a direct one? What other bands you are used to versionear?  

Robby Rigsbee: You guys were Lunatics!! Hahah I really like all the Versions. It seems to me that the Black Crowes always does interesting versions on all those songs. We mainly just played them to make it easy to remember for us… haha

9. I remember a conversation with you where you related that me your boy decorated him the room with "Dancing Bears" of the Grateful Dead… ¿continues that equal room of decorated? What music you put to your small one and which he likes but? 

Robby Rigsbee: Ahh yes I remember that conversation. Yes his room is still done up in the Dancing Bear, he loves the colors and the bears. (see the Picture attached)…He really likes to dance to the Grateful Dead!

He knows every word to the new My Morning Jacket album. His favorite song is Wonderful off of that album. He also loves the new Grace Potter album. 

10. To each band that I can interview I ask them for those bands with the ones that shared setting… ¿Which was your greater experience up to now?. 

Robby Rigsbee: For me I would say probably say the Steepwater band show that we did with them in Paris on our last night of our 1^st tour..

I love Jeff’s style and he got me up for a few songs during their set… Great time Great time.. We stayed up all night partying waiting for our flight home!! hahah

11. We have been able to enjoy aside from your concert, in our Spanish land of other bands as: Stacie Collins, Dirty York (Australia), The Vegabonds, Delta Saints, American Aquairium, The Muggs, Willie Nile,… recently they will come Outside The Box, US Rails, Rory Kelly, The Jayhawks…. You know some of these bands? What band you would recommend us to bring of tour?

Also our friends Starroy is coming over in December. Be sure to check them out if they hit up Cangas. Berry their guitar player use to be in ZWR, and he is very good!

12. A moment that never will forget of the concert of Cangas, was when in the concert you finished with a wig in the head ¿Recall that moment? Which was your experience but lunatic during the European tour? Does not it be worth to count when I raised on my shoulders to Re Dorton hahaha
Robby Rigsbee: Oh yeah I remember that moment!!!! Hahahah I thought I was going to pass out, it was so hot with that thing on. I felt like Lenny Kravitz Guitar player Craig Ross!!! Hahahah.

When you put Red on your Shoulders I knew it was going to be a fun fun night!! I was thinking you guys know how to party!!! hahaha

13. To go finalizing, i would like to know if some of the members has another band or some parallel project. 

Robby Rigsbee: Zach has been writing Gospel/Christian songs and I plan on collaborating with him on that.

14. What do you think about "Churrasco", "Criollos" , "Mencía Wine" and "Coffe Liquor"... hahaha? 

Robby Rigsbee: we loved the wine and the coffee liquor, matter of fact we all smuggled a bunch of wine home with us for our wives!!! They enjoyed it as well!!! I still have one bottle left… for that special occasion!

15. Finally, Talk me about "Teenage Head Music", Manny and company... .... 

Robby Rigsbee: We have worked with both Manny and Carmen and very much enjoyed working with them…. They took very good care of us and they are very down to earth good folks!!! I will forever keep in touch with them.

They have a great thing going, and I wish them the very best!!!

 thanks by fantastic night lived in Cangas, to give you greetings of all of us and to desire you to see again the next year…. I hope continue together because really are a fantastic band.

Entrevista Dirty York: Luke Teys responde nuestras preguntas.

Luke Teys responde a nuestras preguntas: entrevista a 

"Dirty York"

Hace ya un mes aproximadamente un mes, exactamente el 8 de Abril, los Dirty York nos hicieron disfrutar de un gran concierto en Cangas (Galicia). tras dicho concierto hablamos con ellos para que nos contestaran a algunas preguntas. 

Tras terminar su extensa gira europea y ya de vuelta a Melbourne (su hogar), Luke Teys, fundador y guitarra de los Dirty York nos ha contestado a cada una de nuestras preguntas, de un modo personal y amigable. 

Así que sin más rodeos os dejo la entrevista a Dirty York, donde os adelanto la confirmación de un nuevo disco y nueva gira española en el 2013.

Antes de nada agradecer a Luke por responder nuestras preguntas, y sin duda alguna a Farmer por ayudarme con la traducción , a Ángela por las magníficas fotos , a Berto (Fonte do Galo) por su ayuda y..., pero tengo que agradecer especialmente a esa chica que está a mi lado y me permite hacer mil y una escapadas para poder seguir disfrutando del rock. ENTREVISTA A LUKE TEYS "DIRTY YORK"

1. Cuando y como se formó Dirty York .... y ¿De donde surge el nombre del grupo?

Comencé la banda en 2005 con una formación completamente diferente. Yo de hecho solía ser el cantante….Ha!! Browny se unió a Benny y a mí en 2007 como cantante. Hemos pasado por algunos cambios de formación hasta donde estamos ahora. El nombre “Dirty York” no significa nada… Siempre me ha gustado la palabra “York” y pensé que la palabra “Dirty” simplemente sonaba bien con ella.

2.La banda ha sufrido algunos cambios .... ¿Como  conociste los nuevos miembros?.

Bueno, Wolfie y Juz son bastante conocidos en la escena musical en Australia. Ambos han hecho un montón de trabajo con muchos artistas diferentes durante la pasada década o incluso más. Wolfie y yo nos conocemos desde hace más de 10 años, de tocar en bandas anteriores con las que hemos girado juntos. Con Juzzy es más o menos lo mismo. Él y Benny también tocaban con un amigo nuestro, en la banda de Chad Mason. Benny, Browny y yo siempre hemos pensado que eran una fantástica sección rítmica y que nos encantaría tocar con ellos. Hemos sido afortunados de que acabase sucediendo eso.

3.Yo, como muchos de este país os escuchamos por primera vez en el Festival de Azkenarock 2011, sinceramente creo que ahora sonáis mucho mejor que en ese momento. ¿Como fue esa experiencia para vosotros?

Sí, creo que sonamos mucho mejor ahora con la nueva formación que el año pasado en el Azkena. Creo que como en todo, cuanto más afinas lo que haces y ensayas duro entonces inevitablemente serás mejor en ello. Hemos estado bastante ocupados en el último año, pero venir a Europa para este tour fue algo en lo que nos hemos preocupado mucho y realmente queríamos ser la mejor banda que pudiésemos cuando comenzásemos el tour.

4.Siempre os definen como los Balck Crowes australianos, ¿No llega a incomodaros siempre escuchar lo mismo?

Sí, nos preguntan eso un montón. De una parte no nos importa poque todos amamos a los Crowes y es un gran cumplido. Por otro lado puede convertirse en algo pesado porque nosotros realmente no creemos que sonemos mucho como ellos. Quiero decir que seguro todos somos estudiantes de la misma escuela del rock pero creo que nosotros somos un puñado de seguidores con más energía y diversidad. Los Crowes son todo clase!!

 5.¿Como es eso de vivir en un país rodeado por el mar? , supongo que tendréis muchas dificultades a la hora de salir de gira por otros países. ¿ Dais muchos conciertos por Australia?

Sí, es cierto. Estando tan aislados y distanciados, se hace muy difícil realizar un tour decente. Hay sólo un puñado de salas en cada ciudad grande en las que valga la pena tocar. Además, muchas de esas salas tienen esa política de mierda según la cual si tocas en su sala no te está permitido tocar entre 2 a 4 semanas antes y después de esa fecha en esa ciudad. Entiendo porqué lo hacen pero es una absoluta política de mierda hecha por jodidos gilipollas!! Las bandas no deberían aceptar que les digan que tú no puedes hacer dinero sólo para que las salas puedan hacer más…Ya es suficientemente difícil para los artistas conseguir trabajo. Si puedes contratar actuaciones suficientes en este pais para hacer un tour pequeño, definitivamente vas a perder tus beneficios sólo en gastos de viajes, gasolina, billetes arereos. Realmente necesitas ser mainstream/comercial para hacer algo de dinero en Australia. Buscar actuaciones en el extranjero es la única manera de que una banda como la nuestra pueda hacer un tour en condiciones estos días.

6.Siempre nos gusta preguntar por esas bandas que os han influenciado: ¿Podrías decirnos alguna de esas bandas que escuchabais antes de formar los Dirty York?

No había uno o dos grupos en particular que escuchase antes de formar Dirty York. Quiero decir que siempre me han gustado los grandes como a todo el mundo. Supongo que como guitarrista siempre he estado muy influenciado y orientado a bandas de guitarras potentes como los Gunners, Skynyrd, Zeppelin, Crowes, Jendrix, AC/DC, pero también como compositor siempre he tendido a Dylan, Neil Young, Beatles, Stones, Crowded House, Tom Petty y Waits. Demasiados para mencionar…simplemente el mismo material que todos amamos. Quizás podría decir que la banda que me ha influenciado más personalmente y musicalmente ha sido Cold Chisel…Sí, me encantan!!

7.Nos gustaría que nos hablaras sobre el rock actualmente en Australia. ¿Podrías darnos el nombre de alguna nueva banda interesante?

Bueno no hay mucho que me venga a la mente. No hay demasiado rock…Somos todos fans de un amigo nuestro. Su nombre es Chris Altmann y su banda es Que Paso. Es un talento de verdad y escribe grandes canciones. También otro amigo nuestro es Chad Mason que tiene algunas canciones impresionantes. Benny y Juz también tocan con él. Presta atención a “The Strydes”. Son una buena joven banda con buenas canciones…buenos tíos también!!

8.Hemos disfrutado mucho de vuestro concierto en Cangas (Galicia), una noche de rock&roll, dos horas de energía y actitud sobre el escenario. ¿volveréis en el 2013 

Sí, ese fue un buen concierto…mucha diversión! No puedes volar durante 2 días, viajar por todo el mundo y dar un concierto de 45 minutos…Que se joda eso! 2 horas es un concierto de verdad! Cangas fue mi lugar favorito de nuestro tour. Me gustaría pasar algún tiempo allí…tan bonito! Realmente disfrutamos esa noche en la Sala Son. Alberto es un tío realmente cool. Él cuidó bien de nosotros. Definitivamente volveremos a España en 2013.

9.Después de vuestra gira por España , ¿Que os ha llamado más la atención?

Sí, esperamos eso! Nos encanta España y nos encantaría tener más razones para volver en cuanto sea posible. Seguro que las encontraremos pronto!

10.¿Como definirías vuestra relación con Teenage Head Music?

Sí, hemos desarrollado una gran relación con TH. Manny y su gente son geniales para tratar con ellos. Nuestro tour manager Max es como nuestro hermano…lo queremos! Son una gran compañía que realmente ayudan a sacar música buena y desconocida ahí fuera para que todos la escuchemos.

11.Durante vuestro largo tour europeo. ¿Cual ha sido vuestra experiencia más loca?

Bueno, tocar en Rockpalast en Alemania fue una experiencia loca para nosotros porque somos grandes fans del programa, pero no loca en el sentido en que probablemente estés pensando! Cada noche en España fue una fiesta loca! Con comida loca…cerveza loca y gente loca. Vosotros, bastardos afortunados!!

12.Una de mis canciones preferidas es "Spareroom Hero" me gustaría que me hablaras sobre ella. ¿Quien es Spareroom Hero?.

Ha!! Siempre me he preguntado si alguien me haría alguna vez esa pregunta. Spareroom Hero es una canción que fue escrita acerca de un amigo mío “Dean” que tiene un concurrido café en Chapel St. en Melbourne llamado “Yellow Bird”. Él vive muy cerca y había comprado ese café al mismo tiempo que tenía a su primera hija Sophia. Él (Dean) vino a junto mía un día y me dijo “Hey tío, tengo un tema guay para una canción…Se llama “Spareroom Hero”. Me gustó al instante. Es sobre como él tiene una Fender Telecaster Deluxe ´72 original pero no puede tocarla una mierda. El único momento en que puede tocarla es cuando vuelve a casa del café en los pequeños descansos para ver a su bebé y se sienta en su habitación de los trastos y toca algunos pocos acordes. Hasta que un día él y otro amigo Paul Dempsey (de la banda australiana “Something for Kate”) comenzaron a escribir una canción a la guitarra sobre un tío con problemas de corazón que tuvo una operación para quitarle una vena de su polla y ponerla en su corazón. Había también un gran ganso estofado colgando del techo…Algo así!! Unos días después de contarme eso, Benny estaba tocando el riff en la slide guitar acustica y yo comencé a sacar las letras. La escribimos en 10 minutos. 

13. El próximo año editáis nuevo trabajo. ¿Tiene título el nuevo disco?. ¿Cuando estará a la venta?

Durante el útlmino año o dos, hemos hecho demos de 40 canciones y finalmente nos hemos quedado en las que cogemos para nuestro 3er album. De hecho estaremos en el estudio en 15 días para comenzar a grabar. Debería estar terminado y listo para ser editado en Septiembre de 2012. No, no tenemos un título para el disco todavía. Estamos todos muy contentos con las canciones. Creemos que son un gran paso adelante en composición y ejecución con respecto  a “SGTD”. Una evolución real en nuestra música. No podemos esperar a sacarlo ahí fuera. Será editado sólo en vinilo (el vilino contendrá un código de descarga gratuita)

14. Yo refiero vuestro primer trabajo, " Waiting On St George ", por su sonido mas puro y virgen...¿hacia donde irá vuestro tercer álbum?

Sí, como he dicho antes, creemos que es un gran paso adelante en la composición y con la formación diferente a la del último album ha sido un gran proceso de sacar el sonido juntos de una nueva manera. Todos sentimos que las canciones son más fuertes y más maduras en sus elementos. Que yo creo es lo que ocurre en a evolución de cualquier buena banda.

Y finalmente agradeceros por cada uno de los conciertos que disteis por España,pero sobre todo el que vivimos en Cangas (Galicia), una noche que tardaremos en olvidar. Esperamos poder volver a veros el próximo año por nuestras tierras.Gracias.

1. When and since Dirty York was formed …. And since did the name of the group arise?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): I started the band in 2005 with a completely different line-up. I actually used to be the singer...Ha!! Browny joined Benny & I as singer in 2007. We have been through a few line-ups to get to where we are now. The name 'Dirty York' doesn't mean anything....I had always just liked the word 'York' & thought that the word 'Dirty' just sounded cool with it.

2.The band has suffered some changes …. How did you know the new members?.

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Well Wolfie & Juz are pretty well known around the music scene in Australia. They have both done a lot of work with many different artists over the past decade or more. Wolfie & I have known each other for more than 10 years just from playing in previous bands that have gigged together. Juzzy is pretty much the same. He & Benny also play with a friend of ours Chad Mason's band. Benny, Browny & I had always thought that they were an awesome rhythm section & that we would love to play with them. We were so fortunate for that to end up being the case.

3.I as many of this country listen to you for the first time in the Azkenarock Fesival 2011, sincerely I believe that now you sound much better than in that moment. Since that experience was for you?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah I think we are sounding a lot better now with the new line-up than last year at Azkena. I think as with anything the more you hone what you are doing & practice hard then you will inevitably become better for it. We have all been very busy over the last year but coming to Europe for this tour was something that we all cared deeply about & really wanted to be the best band we could possibly be by the time we started the tour.

4.The Black Crowes. Always they define you as the Australian Black Crowes does not it become you troublesome to listen always to the same thing?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah, we get asked this a lot. On one hand it doesn't bother us at all because we love the Crowes & it's a massive compliment. Then on the other hand it can become a bit lame because we don't really think we sound that much like them. I mean sure we are all students of the same school of rock but I think we are a bunch of mongrels with more energy & diversity. The Crowes are just all class!!

5.Since it is it of living in a country surrounded by the sea? I suppose that it will be difficult at the moment of going out of tour along other countries …. Do you realize many concerts for Australia?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah, that's right. Being so isolated & spread out, it does make it very hard to do a decent tour. There really only is a handful of venues in each major city that are worth playing at. Also, a lot of those venues have this bullshit policy that if you are playing at their venue you are not allowed to play for between 2-4 weeks either side of that date in that city. I understand why they do it but it is an absolute Bullshit policy made by fuckin wankers!! Bands shouldn't be able to be told that you are not allowed to make money just so the venues can make more...It's already hard enough for artists to get work. If you can book enough gigs in this country to make a small tour you are definitely going to lose all your profits on Travel costs/Fuel/Airfares alone. You really need to be mainstream/commercial to make any money in Australia. Looking abroad for gigs is pretty much the only way for a band like us to do a proper tour these days.

6.Always we like to ask on the bands that more have influenced you … might you say to me someone of these bands to that you should listen before forming the Dirty York?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): There wasn't one or two bands inparticular that I listened to before forming Dirty York. I mean I always just liked all the greats like everybody else. I suppose as a guitar player I was always heavily influenced & drawn to guitar strong bands like Gunners, Skynyrd, Zeps, Crowes, Hendrix, Acca Dacca but also as a song writer I have always been drawn to Dylan, Neil Young, Beatles, Stones, Crowded House, Tom Petty & Waits. Too many to mention...Just the same great stuff we all love. Maybe I could say the band that has influenced me the most personally & musically would be Cold Chisel?...Yeah I fuckin love em!!

7.Other one asks that I would like to do you is that you were speaking to me about the rock nowadays in Australia …. Might you give yours names of new interesting bands?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Well there's not much currently that springs to mind. Not much Rock anyway?? We are all fans of a friend of ours music. His name is Chris altmann & his band is Que Paso. He's a real talent & writes some great tunes. Also, another friend of ours Chad Mason has some awesome songs. Benny & Juz also play with him. Check out 'the Strydes'. They are a great young band with really cool songs....cool guys too!!

8.We have enjoyed very much in your Cangas's concert (Galicia), one night of rock*roll. Two hours on the scene, energy and attitude … will you return in 2013 for Spain?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah, that was a great gig...Alot of fun! You cannot fly for 2 days, travelling around the world & give a 45 min concert. ..Fuck that! 2 hours is a real concert! Cangas was my favourite place on our tour. I would love to spend some time there...so beautiful! We really enjoyed that night at Salason. Alberto is a really cool guy. He really looked after us. We will definitely be back in Spain in 2013.

9.After your tour for españa that has been called you more the attention.

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah, we hope so! We all absolutely love Spain & would absolutely love to have more reasons to come back asap. I'm sure we'll soon find out!

10.Since you would define your relation with Teeange Head Music?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah, we have developed a great relationship with Teenage Head. Manny & the gang have been brilliant to deal with. Our tour manager Max is like our brother...we fuckin love him! They are a great company who really help get good, unknown music out there for us all to listen to.

11.During the European tour …. Which has been your experience mas mad up to the moment?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Well, playing Rockpalast in Germany was a mad experience for us as we are all huge fans of the show but not mad in the sense you are probably meaning! Every night in Spain was a mad party!!....with mad food...mad beer & mad people....You lucky bastards!!

12.One of my favorite songs is "Spareroom Hero" might you speak to me the one who is Spareroom Hero?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Ha!! I have always wondered if anyone would ever ask me this question. Spareroom Hero is a song that was written about a friend of mine 'Dean' who owns a busy Cafe on Chapel St in Melbourne called Yellow Bird. He lives very close by & had bought this cafe at the same time he had his 1^st child 'Sophia'. He (Dean) came up to me one day & said 'Hey man, I got a cool theme for a song...It's called Spareroom Hero'. I liked it instantly. It's about how he owns an original '72 Fender Telecaster Deluxe but cannot play it for shit. The only time he gets to play it is when he comes home from the cafe for small breaks to see his baby & just sits in his spareroom & strums a few bum chords. Until one day he & another friend Paul Dempsey (from Australian band 'Something for Kate') started to write a song on the guitar about a guy with heart problems who had an operation to remove a vein from his cock to get put in his heart. There was also a big stuffed goose hanging from the ceiling...Somethin like that!! A few days after he told me this, Benny was playing the slide riff on acoustic & I just started spitting out the words. We wrote it in about 10 mins.

13. Next year you edit a new work. Have you title for the new disc?. When will it go out to the market?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Over the last year or 2, we have demoed 40ish songs & have finally settled on the ones for our 3^rd album. We are actually in the studio in a fortnight to start tracking. It should be finished & ready for release by September 2012. No, we do not have a name for the album yet. We are all really happy with the songs. We believe that they are great step-up in song writing & performance from 'SGTD'. A real evolution in our music. We can't wait to get it out there. It will only be released on vinyl (vinyl will contain free download code).

14. I prefer your first work " Waiting On St George ", believe that his sound is more virgin and purely...Where there will go the one that will be your third work?

Dirty York (Luke Teys): Yeah, like I said before, we believe it's a big step-up in song writing & with the different line-up to last album it's been a great process for bringing us & the sound together in a new way. We all feel that the songs are just stronger & more mature in their elements. Which I think is what happens in the evolution of any good band.

And to finish to be grateful for yourselves each of your concerts in Spain, but specially that we live in Galicia (Cangas) one night that we will be late in forgetting. We wait to meet next year for our lands. Thanks.
